Sophie Turner and Jessica Chastain say X-Men: Dark Phoenix was constantly rewritten on set

June 6, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Sophie Turner and Jessica Chastain, two of the stars of X-Men: Dark Phoenix, say that the film was constantly being rewritten on set.

It seems like critics aren’t responding particularly well to X-Men: Dark Phoenix – the last film in Fox’s franchise. While each viewer will have to make up their own mind on the film, news that frequent rewrites were happening on set doesn’t convey positivity.

In an interview with Screen Rant, star Sophie Turner revealed: “Simon [Kingberg] and I would sit down for two hours every day and just comb through each page of the script,” then adding, “there was rewriting being done all the time.”

Jessica Chastain then also chimed in: “You could have a conversation and something comes from that and then the next morning, Simon would show up to work and say, ‘hey, I wrote some pages that I think could be interesting for this direction we’re going.'”

Perhaps this goes some way to explain why the film hasn’t quite hit the ground running but, of course, fans can be the judge for themselves with Dark Phoenix now playing in cinemas.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix sees Simon Kinberg directing a cast that includes franchise veterans Michael Fassbender (Magneto), James McAvoy (Professor X), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Alexandra Shipp (Storm), Sophie Turner (Jean Grey), Tye Sheridan (Cyclops), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Nightcrawler) and Evan Peters (Quicksilver) alongside new additions Kota Eberhardt (The Persian Connection) as Selene, Andrew Stehlin (Hacksaw Ridge) as Red Lotus, and Jessica Chastain (Molly’s Game) and Lamar Johnson (Kings).
