Variety is reporting that Nat Wolff (The Fault in Our Stars, Paper Towns) is in final talks to join Warner Bros.’ upcoming anime adaptation Death Note, which is being directed by Adam Wingard (You’re Next, The Guest) from a script by Jeremy Slater (Fantastic Four).
Wolff will star as “a student who discovers a supernatural notebook that allows him to kill anyone simply by writing the victim’s name. A cat-and-mouse game ensues when he’s tracked by a reclusive police officer.”
Written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata, Death Note spawned an anime as well as two live-action Japanese films (and a spinoff), along with a TV drama which aired in Japan this year. Warner Bros. acquired the rights to a Hollywood adaptation in 2009.
