HBO chief responds to Game of Thrones final season remake petition

July 25, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Casey Bloys, the programming chief for HBO, has responded to the fan petition to remake the final season of Game of Thrones.

One of the most ambitious and beloved TV shows in history came to an end earlier this year but, unsurprisingly, there is a very loud group of audience members who weren’t pleased with what they saw. They have even signed a petition in some farfetched hope that HBO might consider remaking the final season.

Well, that isn’t going to happen and now HBO’s Casey Bloys has addressed the issue when speaking at HBO’s TCA summer press tour event (via Variety): “There are very, very few downsides to having a hugely popular show, but one I can think of is when you try to end it, many people have big opinions on how it should end. The petition shows a lot of enthusiasm and passion for the show, but it wasn’t something that we seriously considered.”

Bloys is absolutely right here. It was always going to be impossible to please everyone when ending a show like Game of Thrones. At the end of the day, the team stuck to their vision for the series and saw it through to the end – if some fans weren’t entertained by the story being told, that is unfortunate.
