The cast for Disney’s Cruella has been growing lately and Variety has now revealed another addition to the film. According to the outlet, Joel Fry (Game of Thrones) will be joining the project as one of Cruella De Vil’s faithful but bumbling henchman, Jasper.
Fry joins a cast that includes Emma Stone (La La Land), Emma Thompson (Men in Black International) and Paul Walter Hauser (I, Tonya). Stone is attached to portray the young, pre-villain Cruella de Vil, while Thompson has been linked to the role of the film’s antagonist, The Baroness. Hauser, meanwhile, will play Horace, the other half of Cruella’s henchmen team.
In the 1961 animated film, Jasper helps Cruella steal the young 101 Dalmatian puppies in order to make her a new fur coat. Jasper was voiced by Betty Lou Gerson in the original film was later played by Hugh Laurie (House) in the 1996 live-action 101 Dalmations starring Glenn Close.
The live-action film will explore Cruella’s evil origins and why she became so obsessed with capturing and killing animals for clothing.
Cruella is being directed by Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya) from a script by Tony McNamara (The Favourite), and is expected to start shooting this September ahead of a December 23rd 2020 release.
