CBS remaking MacGyver

October 4, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Deadline has revealed that CBS is set to remake the 1980s action-adventure series MacGyver, which is being executive produced by James Wan (Fast & Furious 7), R. Scott Gemmill (NCIS: LA) and original EP Henry Winkler. Gemmeill will also write the script.

The new series will follow “twentysomething Angus MacGyver, who gets recruited into the clandestine organization from the original series where he uses his knack for solving problems in unconventional ways to help prevent disasters from happening.”

The original series starred Richard Dean Anderson as MacGyver, and ran for 139 episodes across seven seasons, along with two TV movies. Anderson subsequently reprised the role in 2012 for a series of shorts produced by Mercedes-Benz.
