Michael Fassbender says Christian Bale would have been “perfect” for Steve Jobs

October 5, 2015 by Tom Beasley

Michael Fassbender (Macbeth) has said that Christian Bale (The Big Short) would have been a great fit for the title role in Steve Jobs, had he not dropped out of the project.

Bale parted ways with Steve Jobs in November, allowing Fassbender to step into the lead role. Fassbender was in London promoting director Danny Boyle’s (Trance) film when he was asked by The Hollywood Reporter about his predecessor in the role of the late Apple co-founder.”I thought to myself: Christian Bale is perfect, why isn’t he doing it? I actually called him up and told him that myself.”

Fassbender also spoke about his lack of physical resemblance to Jobs and whether that hurts the film. “You see at the beginning of the film that I don’t look anything like him, so you go: ok, he doesn’t look anything like him, we can get over that now and watch the movie,” he said.

“Biopics can be very much about impersonation, and that kind of overtakes the story at times.”

Steve Jobs will have its British premiere at the 59th London Film Festival this month and opens in UK cinemas on November 13th.
