With filming expected to begin early in the New Year, Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro (The Shape of Water) continues to assemble his cast for his next feature Nightmare Alley, with Hereditary and Knives Out star Toni Collette the latest to sign on for the adaptation of the 1946 William Lindsay novel.
“Guillermo is a true auteur,” said Collette. “I look forward to collaborating with him and the amazing cast he has already assembled. What an honour.”
Collette joins the previously announced Bradley Cooper (A Star is Born) and Carol stars Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara in the film, which takes place in the world of travelling carnivals and Cooper’s corrupt con-man teaming with Blanchett’s female psychiatrist to swindle people with a mentalist act.
Nightmare Alley is slated to shoot in Toronto early in 2020, with del Toro directing from a script he’s co-written with Kim Morgan (The Forbidden Room). Collette meanwhile can currently be seen in the Netflix crime drama Unbelievable, and next appears on the big screen in Rian Johnson’s murder mystery Knives Out, which opens in November.
