Ron Perlman cast in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

October 9, 2015 by Justin Cook

Hellboy and Sons of Anarchy actor Ron Perlman is set to join the stacked cast of the upcoming Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor will play a goblin in the film, but other details pertaining to his role are unknown at the time.

This news comes only days after the announcement that Academy Award winner Jon Voight (Midnight Cowboy), Carmen Ejogo (Selma) and Gemma Chan (Humans) are all coming on board the project, which is currently shooting in England, as well.

Perlman is no stranger to big budget, high-profile films such as this one, as he has starred in projects ranging from Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters to Pacific Rim. In the future, he will be popping up in such films as The Jesuit and Robodog.

J.K. Rowling, who wrote the book the film is based on, has penned the film’s screenplay. Reportedly, Fantastic Beasts follows Newt Scamander, a magizoologist who travels to New York City to do research on magical creatures; it takes place 70 years before Harry Potter reads Scamander’s book at Hogwarts.

Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them is set for release on November 18, 2016 and sees Eddie Redmayne (The Danish Girl) starring as Scamander alongside Colin Farrell (The Lobster), Katherine Waterston (Queen of Earth), Ezra Miller (The Flash), Dan Fogler (Barely Lethal) and Samantha Morton (Control). David Yates, who directed the final four Harry Potter films, returns to direct.
