American Horror Story alum Jessica Lange has revealed the number one aspect of the show she refused to participate in during her four-season run on the horror anthology series.
During an interview with Screen Rant at the press conference promoting The Politician, Lange stated that she refused to be a part of the gore aspect of the popular horror series.
“There are things that, I tell you, I won’t do,” Lange said. “But we have come to kind of an understanding. For instance, in American Horror Story, my characters never had to… Over those four years of doing that, I wasn’t involved in the really gory aspect of that series. I said, from the beginning, I didn’t want that. The thing that interests me was the psychological danger. You know, the failings. But did not want to do the other stuff. And he always respected that. So instead, he would give me, like a Bowie song to sing, which was a great trade-off.”
While American Horror Story is well-known for its over-the-top violence and gore, Lange is right. Her wishes were respected by Ryan Murphy as her characters were never really involved in any of the gory elements of the series and it’s a possibility she never will be as she doesn’t think she will ever return to the show.
