Terminator: Dark Fate sequels would focus on artificial intelligence, reveals James Cameron

October 24, 2019 by Samuel Brace

James Cameron has revealed that artificial intelligence will be the focus of any sequels to Terminator: Dark Fate.

The Terminator franchise has been struggling for a long time, with fans and critics alike, but the latest effort, Terminator: Dark Fate, seems to have been a considerable improvement on efforts since the adored T2: Judgment Day.

James Cameron himself was involved with the film and he has now commented to Collider that if any more sequels happen, they would focus on artificial intelligence:

“I feel like one of my major motivations on this film or coming back to the, hopefully franchise, was to explore the human relationship with artificial intelligence. I don’t feel we did that in Dark Fate. I feel that we set the stage or we set the table for that exploration, and that exploration would take place in a second film and a third film. And we know exactly where we’re going to take that idea. What we wanted to get in the first movie was this idea that it’s just going to keep happening. The names will change, but the basic conflict is going to continue to take place until it gets resolved one way or the other.”

So, it sounds like Cameron and co certainly have a plan for the franchise going forward, which can’t be a bad thing. Would you like to see the series continue or should Dark Fate be the last effort? Let us know in the comments below or on Twitter @flickeringmyth…

Terminator: Dark Fate is directed by Tim Miller (Deadpool), with James Cameron producing, and sees Arnold Schwarzenegger (T-800) and Linda Hamilton (Sarah Connor) reprising their roles alongside new cast additions Mackenzie Davis (Blade Runner 2049), Natalia Reyes (Lady), Diego Boneta (Pretty Little Liars) and Gabriel Luna (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.).
