In a recent interview with Collider, Aquaman star Jason Momoa was asked if he is aware of when filming will begin on the upcoming sequel to the DC blockbuster, with the actor revealing that it probably won’t be for at least another year.
“I mean, Aquaman 2 will probably be a year-plus away,” Momoa explained. “I don’t have a set date on that, unfortunately.”
While fans patiently wait for the second instalment, due to arrive in December 2022, Momoa has stated in a previous interview with ET that the sequel will be way bigger than its predecessor.
“There’s a lot more in store on so many more levels. There’s going to be a lot. It’s way bigger! I’m really stoked at the fan base and what we did with the movie and just went into Warner Bros in D.C. and said, ‘You know, I have some ideas.’ And, they love em and James Wan [director] and everyone is like, ‘We’re all taking it in. We’re excited to do another one.’”
There are currently no plot details regarding the sequel, but Momoa will be reprising his role as Arthur Curry/Aquaman alongside Amber Heard, who is set to return as Mera, while James Wan is back in the director’s chair. Meanwhile, a previous rumour has suggested that the New 52 superhero team The Others may make an appearance in the film, although that is yet to be confirmed.
