Fresh from her role as Ursula in The Little Mermaid Live, Queen Latifah has now signed on to produce and star in a TV reimagining of the classic 80s television series The Equalizer, which has a pilot production commitment from CBS.
The project, written by Andrew Marlowe (Castle) and Terri Miller (Take Two), will see Queen Latifah in the title role as “an enigmatic figure who uses her extensive skills to help those with nowhere else to turn”.
The Equalizer originally ran on CBS between 1985 and 1989 and starred Edward Woodward as Robert McCall, a former black ops agent out to atone for his past by helping those in need. The series was recently adapted for the big screen, with Denzel Washington playing McCall in two movies from director Antoine Fuqua.
Marlowe and Miller will serve as showrunners on The Equalizer, executive producing alongside Queen Latifah and Shakim Compere of Flavor Unit, and Richard Lindheim, co-creator of the original TV series.
