Having teamed on the upcoming Boss Level, actors Mel Gibson and Frank Grillo are set to reunite with director Joe Carnahan for the new thriller Leo From Toledo, Variety has revealed.
As per the trade, Leo From Toledo will see Gibson taking on the role of a former hitman for the Kansas City mob “now hiding in witness protection and having trouble remembering simple things. A hunted man, he must race to save his estranged daughter and granddaughter.”
“I’ve seldom had more fun than sitting in a writer’s room with producer Lawrence Grey and writer-director Joe Carnahan, while we spit balled on this story,” said Gibson. “It’s a tight, fast thriller, but its quirky observations had me in stitches. I’ve wanted to work with Lawrence for quite a while; he has a nose for great material and an ability to deliver it in style. Joe and I refer to him as the arbiter of taste. He balances both of our inner 14-year old’s.”
“This is one we can’t wait to bring to market,” adds Kimberly Fox of MadRiver, who is representing the package at the American Film Market. “It is the perfect mix of comedy and action that is needed in the marketplace today and something we know will excite audiences worldwide.”
Before we get to Leo From Toledo, we have Carnahan’s sci-fi action thriller Boss Level to look forward to, with Gibson and Grillo starring alongside the likes of Naomi Watts, Annabelle Wallis, Michelle Yeoh, Will Sasso, Ken Jeong and Mathilde Ollivier. It is currently without a release date, but expected to arrive in 2020.
