Having already smashed all records for an R-rated movie (becoming the most profitable comic book movie of all time in the process), Warner Bros. and DC Films’ Joker has now reached the magical $1 billion mark at the global box office.
According to Forbes, the Joaquin Phoenix-headlined crime drama / Clown Prince of Crime origin story reached the milestone today, making it the seventh film to hit a billion this year and the second non-Disney release to do so after Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Joker becomes the fourth billion dollar-grossing movie from DC after Aquaman ($1.148 billion), The Dark Knight Rises ($1.084 billion) and The Dark Knight ($1.004 billion), and will likely top Nolan’s two Batman films before its run ends. Should it see some awards recognition – or a very unexpected China release – then Joker may yet see off Arthur Curry’s solo outing finish up as the biggest DC movie of all time.
Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix (The Sisters Brothers), Robert De Niro (Goodfellas), Zazie Beetz (Deadpool 2), Bill Camp (Red Sparrow), Frances Conroy (American Horror Story), Brett Cullen (Narcos), Glenn Fleshler (Billions), Douglas Hodge (Penny Dreadful), Marc Maron (GLOW), Josh Pais (Motherless Brooklyn), Shea Whigham (Kong: Skull Island), Douglas Hodge (Robin Hood) and Dante Pereira-Olson (You Were Never Really Here).
