Rock, who previously hosted the awards ceremony in 2005, will follow Neil Patrick Harris’ divisive gig as host this year, which was met with a 16% ratings slump for the telecast.
In the decade since Rock’s previous gig as Oscars host, only two performers have hosted the ceremony twice – Ellen DeGeneres, in 2007 and 2014, and Jon Stewart, in 2006 and 2008.
