Ahead of Code 8’s theatrical and VOD release later this week, Deadline has reported that Quibi is developing a spin-off series starring the film’s leads Stephen Amell (Arrow) and Robbie Amell (The Babysitter). Director Jeff Chan will return to direct the series from a script written by the film’s writer Chris Paré.
Code 8 began as a short film in 2016 which went viral, allowing both Amells to raise much more than they set out to when they used crowdfunding to finance a feature film. Chan, the Amells and Paré will also produce the series alongside XYZ Films.
Stephen Amell will just be coming off an eight season run as Oliver Queen aka Green Arrow in The CW’s hit series Arrow, which launched a small universe of its own on the network through other series like The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl, which first premiered on CBS before moving to The CW. The Arrowverse is currently going through Crisis on Infinite Earths, their latest crossover between the various DC shows, with Arrow set to end in January. Robbie Amell also starred in The Flash as a recurring character for a time early in that series.

Code 8 is set in a world where 4% of the population is born with varying supernatural abilities, but instead of being billionaires or superheroes, they face discrimination and live in poverty, often resorting to crime. Connor Reed (Robbie Amell), a power-enabled young man, is struggling to pay for his ailing mother’s (Kari Matchett) health treatment. Fighting to earn enough money as a day laborer, Connor is lured into a lucrative criminal world by Garrett (Stephen Amell) who works for Lincoln City’s reigning drug lord, Marcus Sutcliffe (Greg Bryk). Garrett helps Connor sharpen his powers in order to execute a series of crimes on behalf of Sutcliffe, while a militarized police unit, led by Agent Park (Sung Kang) and Agent Davis (Aaron Abrams), hunts them down.
Code 8 is set for a theatrical and VOD release on December 13th.
