Deadline is reporting that Her Smell director Alex Ross Perry is set to helm a feature film adaptation of Stephen King’s 1989 bestseller The Dark Half for MGM.
Previously adapted for the big screen by horror legend George A. Romero in 1989, The Dark Half follows Thad Beaumont, an author of highbrow literary novels who has secretly enjoyed huge success writing suspense thrillers under the pseudonym George Stark.
When his identity is outed (similar to King’s experience writing under the name Richard Bachman), Thad and his wife decide to “kill off” the pen name with a mock burial for ‘George Stark’, only for Stark to somehow emerge as a murderous physical entity.
