EJ Moreno on the must-see movies of 2020…
As we enter a new decade, we also open a new era of film. 2020 is coming with some notable films: like the last Bond of a generation or the return of some iconic movie characters. There is something for everyone in the coming year of cinema, and here’s a collection of some of the most hyped 2020 films.
If you don’t see the movie you are most anticipating, don’t forget to leave a comment down below and add it to the list!
20. The New Mutants
The anticipation for The New Mutants movie is mostly morbid curiosity. After literal YEARS of delays, moving to a different studio, and massive reshoots, no one knows what this movie will be like; that doesn’t mean we are interested in the insanity.
19. Last Night in Soho
We don’t know much about this upcoming Edgar Wright film, but just the name of the director alone gets people excited. Labelled as a thriller, expect this to be one of Wright’s most intense films to date.
18. In the Heights
With such an impressive first trailer, In The Heights needs to be on every radar. Based on the hit Broadway musical of the same name, Lin Manuel-Miranda teams up with director Jon M. Chu to bring this Latino story to life.
17. Dune
If you are a fan of the original Dune movie, there’s hype for this. If you are a fan of director Denis Villeneuve, this is on your list. If you didn’t know about this remake of the David Lynch film, now you do.
16. Coming 2 America
The Eddie Murphy comeback started in 2019 with Dolemite Is My Name and an excellent hosting gig on SNL, but things really pick up in 2020. Murphy promises even more fun in this long-awaited sequel to the 80s classic.
15. A Quiet Place Part II
The first Quiet Place movie was a shockingly big hit. John Krasinski is hoping for another round of that success as he helms this sequel. Emily Blunt returns as the lead as well, this time trying to find other survivors and protect her newborn child.
14. Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)
Birds of Prey has the distinction of being the first comic book film in the new decade. The female-led team-up film has audiences split before its release, but DC movies are something you can’t predict until the release. At least, there’s more Harley this time!
13. Sonic The Hedgehog
Much like The New Mutants, most of the interest in this Sonic film is curiosity. After the disastrous first design and the better-received re-design, fans want to see what Paramount is going to do with the final product.
12. Ghostbusters: Afterlife
Somehow, we are getting another Ghostbusters movie. While this writer isn’t personally interested, it would be moronic to ignore the buzz the first trailer for this caused. The inclusion of previous characters and connections to the past greatly helps.
11. Mulan
The lone traditional Disney film on the list, Mulan has a lot of pressure on its shoulders. Not only is this film hotly-anticipated, but it’s also a big deal for representation in Hollywood. Not many films have many eyes on them like this.
