ABC has granted a pilot order to The Brides, a reimagining of Bram Stoker’s classic horror novel Dracula from Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina executive producer Robert Aguirre-Sacasa and Greg Berlanti’s Berlanti Productions.
The Brides is described as “a sexy contemporary reimagining of Dracula” and “a vampire soap about empowered, immortal women and the things they do to maintain wealth, prestige, legacy — and their nontraditional family.”
Spinning out of an earlier project from Aguirre-Sacasa that was in development at NBC back in 2015, this new version of The Brides is said to “lean strong into horror and sexuality” and will include the character of Count Dracula, although the focus will firmly be on the three vampire sisters from Stoker’s novel.
Maggie Kiley (American Horror Story, Riverdale) is set to direct the pilot for The Brides, and the casting search is now underway for its three titular characters.
