Following on from last week’s rather surprising news that Showtime has decided to swing the axe on Ray Donovan before its planned eighth and final season, leading man Liev Schreiber has taken to Instagram to reassure fans that we may not have seen the last of his titular fixer.
“It’s hard to describe how amazing i feels to those of us in the Ray Donovan family who have been lucky enough to experience the overwhelming love and support that all of you have expressed for our show since the news broke that Ray would not return,” wrote Schreiber. “It seems like your voices have been heard. Too soon to say how or when, but with a little luck and your ongoing support, there will be more Ray Donovan. So to all the Donofans who got their bats out and beat the odds. Thank you.”

Scheiber, his co-stars, the show’s creator David Hollander and its creative team were said to have been “blindsided” by Showtime’s decision to axe the series after seven seasons, with planning already well underway for what was intended to be an eighth and final season. Talks regarding the renewal were said to have went to the wire before Showtime ultimately opted against it, and at this point its unclear whether Schreiber’s comments suggest that discussions with the network have reopened, or if there’s the possibility of taking the show elsewhere for its final chapter.
