The long saga of The New Mutants has been extended once again, with the troubled X-Men spinoff having been pulled from the release calendar due to the coronavirus pandemic.
However, before yesterday’s announcement, director Josh Boone had been out on the promotional campaign for the movie, during which he shared a few details about what he had planned for the future had Disney not purchased 20th Century Fox.
A sequel would have been on the cards, with Boone telling EW that Antonio Banderas would have been involved. Further still, he has revealed two characters that would have turned up in what would have been the second film of a trilogy:
“Karma was always going to be the villain in the second movie that would be absorbed into the group by the end. We had always wanted to bring Karma and Warlock into the second one when we couldn’t do it in the first one.”
For those who don’t know, Karma is a young mutant who can seize control of the minds of other beings, while Warlock is a techno-organic alien.

While Boone’s planned sequel won’t see the light of day, The New Mutants will finally see release this April, after which fans of the X-Men can look forward to what Marvel Studios has in store for its mutant characters once they finally make their way into the MCU.
20th Century Fox in association with Marvel Entertainment presents “The New Mutants,” an original horror thriller set in an isolated hospital where a group of young mutants is being held for psychiatric monitoring. When strange occurrences begin to take place, both their new mutant abilities and their friendships will be tested as they battle to try and make it out alive.
The New Mutants is directed by Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars) and features a cast includes Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) as Rahne Sinclair/Wolfsbane, Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch) as Illyana Rasputin/Magik, Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things) as Sam Guthrie/Cannonball, Henry Zaga (13 Reasons Why) as Roberto da Costa/Sunspot, Blu Hunt (The Originals) as Danielle Moonstar/Mirage and Alice Braga (Queen of the South) as Dr. Cecilia Reyes. It is set for release on April 3rd, 2020.
