Variety reports that Stellan Skarsgard (Chernobyl) and Kyle Soller (Brexit) will join the upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story spinoff series at Disney+.
The still-untitled series based on Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor is adding Skarsgard and Soller as as-yet-undisclosed characters; the two actors will join Luna and Alan Tuyduk as they reprise their roles from the 2016 movie as Cassian and K2-SO respectively.
Tony Gilroy, a co-writer on Rogue One, is set to helm the pilot in addition to directing multiple episodes. He will work alongside series showrunner Stephen Schiff on the series, which will focus on Rebel agent Cassian Andor during the early days of the Rebellion. It was previously indicated the show would debut in 2021, but that may well be up the air now with the current global health crisis halting productions and playing havoc with schedules.
The Cassian show is on of several Star Wars-related series in the works at Disney+. Also upcoming on the streamer is the second season of The Mandalorian as well as a series focused on Ewan McGregor’s Obi Wan-Kenobi. It has also been rumoured recently that Rosario Dawson’s upcoming role as Ahsoka Tano in The Mandalorian may lead to its own spinoff series.
