Back in February it was announced that Sony and Netflix are teaming on a film version of Matilda: The Musical, and now we have our first piece of casting news for the Roald Dahl adaptation.
As revealed by Deadline, Oscar nominee Ralph Fiennes is set to portray the antagonist Miss Trunchbull, headmistress of Crunchem Hall Primary School – role which has been portrayed by a man during the stage play’s run in the West End and Broadway.
The film is set to reunite the musical’s original director Matthew Warchus and Tony Award-winning writer Dennis Kelly.
In 2018, Netflix signed a deal with the The Roald Dahl Story Company to produce a slate of original animated event series based upon the beloved author’s works, with Thor: Ragnarok and Jojo Rabbit helmer Taika Waititi currently developing two projects based upon Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
