A producer for Alien 5 is still pushing to get franchise icon Sigourney Weaver to return as Ripley in the next film.
Recently, actress Sigourney Weaver hinted that she might be done with the Alien franchise and that her character Ripley “deserved a break”. This was after she was sent a treatment for Alien 5 last year.
Walter Hill, who was a producer on the original Alien, has since spoken to SYFY WIRE and is still pushing for Weaver to be involved in the next film. Hill and David Giler are working on the treatment for Alien 5 and Hill said:
“Sigourney, as she has from the very beginning, is being too modest about her proven ability to pull off the idea — which is to tell a story that scares the pants off your date, kicks the ass of a new Xenomorph, and conducts a meditation on both the universe of the Alien franchise and the destiny of the character of Lt. Ellen Ripley.”
SYFY WIRE also included a photo of the treatment which is called ‘Alien V‘ and has references to dreams on its cover. There is also a date of March 2020 suggesting that this is certainly not a long-dormant project.
How this will connect to Ridley Scott’s own ideas of continuing the franchise following on from Alien: Covenant remains to be seen, but let us know if and how you’d like to see the Alien franchise moving forward, either in the comments or on our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
