With news of another instalment in the long-running slasher franchise Scream, many felt it needed a proper comeback to the big screen and now Variety has reported that Spyglass Media will team with Paramount Pictures to co-produce the latest installment.
As previously reported, Ready or Not duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett look to re-invent the franchise for a whole new generation but plan to keep it accurate to the iconic Wes Craven’s vision. The new Scream film will continue the original story, with David Arquette is confirmed to reprise his role as Sheriff Dewey Riley.
At the time of reporting, there’s still no word if series mainstays Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox will return for the fifth entry, but Campbell has said that Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett have reached out to her. More official casting news is expected in the coming weeks
Sources close to Variety tell the trade that “Paramount will marketing and distribute Scream 5 worldwide and plans to release the film in 2021.” Production plans to get underway at the end of the summer in Wilmington, North Carolina.
