Following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, Marvel fans have been highly anticipating any news regarding the involvement of the X-Men in the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now, one actress has thrown her hat into the ring to play one of the characters featured in the X-Men roster.
In an interview with Empire, while promoting her upcoming film Antebellum, Janelle Monáe expressed her interest in playing Storm once the reboot of the X-Men franchise enters development at Marvel Studios.
“I definitely have thrown it out there,” Monáe said. “One of my dreams has always been to play Storm. I don’t know if she comes in Black Panther, but it would be a dream to have her in it. I don’t know where they are with that. A lot of women have played Storm and they’ve done an exceptional job, and I would love to be in that line of artists and get to do Storm justice.”
Although Disney and Marvel Studios are currently keeping their plans for the X-Men character under wraps, if Monáe was hired to play Storm in future films, she would be the third actor to do so on the big screen with Halle Berry portraying the character in four feature films including the initial trilogy and X-Men: Days of Future Past, while Alexandra Shipp took over the role for X-Men: Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix.
