Joe Russo, the director of Avengers: Endgame, thinks that the MCU will need to wait a while longer before introducing a newly cast Wolverine to the world.
Ever since the Disney/Fox deal went through, fans have been waiting patiently for news of the X-Men’s introduction to the MCU, especially Wolverine. So far, there has been no news to mention but why is this?
Well, according to the co-director of Avengers: Endgame Joe Russo, he thinks that its too soon to re-cast Wolverine in the MCU, that there needs to be more time passed since Hugh Jackman last portrayed the character.
Speaking to ComicBookMovie, he said: “I mean, Wolverine was always one of my favorite characters. Incredible Hulk #181 was one of the first comic books that I remember collecting, which was the first appearance of Wolverine. Hugh Jackman has done an incredible job with that character over the years, and I think they should take a break for a little while before someone else takes a crack at it.”

Jackman’s portrayal of Wolverine is so iconic and well known, Russo is probably right that the longer they leave it, the easier it will be for whoever comes next. And it’s not like Marvel is lacking compelling characters to play with in the meantime.
