Kevin Feige tried to keep 2000’s X-Men movie faithful to the comics

July 16, 2020 by Samuel Brace

Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel Studios, apparently tried his best to keep 2000s X-Men faithful to the comics early in his career.

It has officially been 20 years since 2000’s X-Men hit cinemas and the landscape of comic book movies is certainly very different now. Presently, fans are waiting to see what Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios do with the X-Men now that they have the right to use them.

The good news is that Feige seems to have a history of championing faithful X-Men adaptations that stay true to the source material. Speaking to the Observer, executive producer of X-Men, Ralph Winter, shared that Fox wanted a broad appeal for the film and although Feige was only a production assistant at the time, he did his best to reign them in:

“There was pushback to being faithful to the comic. Kevin Feige [producer Lauren Shuler Donner’s production assistant on the film] was right there in the midst of all of that. He didn’t have as big of a voice back then, but he was careful and faithful about the characters and reminding us, ‘Hey, you can do that, but here’s where the character came from. Here’s where their powers started. So keep that in mind as you go do that.'”

Hopefully, Feige still has the same passion for the X-Men twenty years later. We don’t know when we will see these characters again on the big screen but one expects that it will be a pretty big event when we do.
