At the XBOX Showcase event, the world saw the first footage from Halo Infinite in an eight-minute demo. 343 Industries describes Halo Infinite has a “spiritual reboot” of the franchise, which they designed as a way to let new players enter the long-running story with ease.
The first look footage ran on a locked 60fps and offered fans an incredible look at the redesigned world. Many compare the map to the original Halo: Combat Evolved, even including Halo’s Warthog vehicle and well-known enemies like Brutes.

The gameplay footage reportedly starts several hours into the campaign and shows off some brand-new mechanics like Master Chief’s grappling hook and a “Drop Wall” cover. The new grappling hook is used here to grab objects in the Halo Infinite, such as energy canisters. You can use what the developers call the “Grappleshot” to melee nearby enemies, grapple onto ledges, and even throw grenades at enemies. “Drop Wall” is a new shield that’s deployed at rapid speeds to protect against enemy attacks.
343 Industries offered this statement about the new features: “This new equipment, along with various new weapons, open up more freedom and flexibility for players to showcase their own playstyles. And yes, these new additions to the sandbox will also carry over to multiplayer, however they’ll function a bit differently as equipment items that can be picked up on the map. We look forward to talking more about multiplayer details soon.”
Halo Infinite will debut on Xbox One, PC, and the new Xbox Series X during the 2020 holiday season.
