Paramount Pictures has set an April 8th, 2022 release date for Sonic the Hedgehog 2, the sequel to this year’s video game movie adaptation.
While details regarding casting or a production start date are currently being kept under wraps – presumably due to the ongoing global health crisis – it’s safe to assume Ben Schwartz (Sonic) and Jim Carrey (Dr Robotnik) are expected to return for the sequel. However, James Marsden has previously stated that he is already signed on for multiple sequels – hinting that his future with the franchise seems likely at this point.
Upon its release, Sonic the Hedgehog achieved the number one opening weekend of all time for a movie based on a video game and ended up earning just over $300 million at the worldwide box office, from a budget of around $90 million.
