Variety is reporting that Robert Downey Jr. and Susan Downey’s Team Downey are set to produce an as-yet-untitled detective drama series for Apple TV+.
Based on the Toronto Life article ‘The Sting’ from Michael Lista and created by Adam Perlman (Billions), the series “follows a frustrated Canadian detective who takes on a decades-old cold case in hopes of winning a confession and becoming a hero. The case quickly spirals out of control when the undercover cop attempts an elaborate sting, adding playacting cops, taxpayer resources, and an unexpected friendship with the peculiar target.”
In addition to executive producing, Downey is also said to be in contention for a supporting role in the series, which has received a straight-to-series order from Apple.
Team Downey is coming off the HBO drama series Perry Mason, which has recently been renewed for a second season. The production company is also working on the DC comic book adaptation Sweet Tooth for Netflix.
