MacGruber is set to return to the small screen as NBC’s streaming service Peacock has given the Will Forte-led comedy an 8-episode series order. The network made the announcement in a teaser video that revealed MacGruber will premiere in 2021.
Will Forte reprises his role as MacGruber with Deadline also reporting Kristen Wiig (Wonder Woman 1984) and Ryan Phillippe (Shooter) will also reprise their roles from the 2010 MacGruber film as Vicki St. Elmo and Dixon Piper respectively.
Forte, Jorma Taccone and John Solomon will write and executive produce with Taccone directing the series. Lorne Michaels, John Goldwyn, Andrew Singer and Erin David will also serve as executive producers.
Originally a Saturday Night Live parody of the TV series MacGyver, the MacGruber movie was released back in 2010 and quickly became a cult favourite, although it tanked at the box office with just $9.3 million from its theatrical release.
After rotting in prison for over a decade, America’s ultimate hero and uber patriot MacGruber (Forte) is finally released. His mission: to take down a mysterious villain from his past—Brigadier Commander Enos Queeth. With the entire world in the crosshairs, MacGruber must race against time to defeat the forces of evil — only to find that evil… may be lurking within.
