One of the constants from the first four Scream films is David Arquette’s Dewey Riley, Courteney Cox’s Gale Weathers and Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott surviving each iteration of Ghostface despite their severe injuries throughout each instalment.
Now, in an interview with Hollywood Life, Arquette revealed that he would like to see this trend continue with all of the original characters surviving the upcoming fifth instalment by directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.
“Oh, you never know! Everyone should always be worried!” Arquette said. “It’s a very scary horror film! Who knows what can happen! But I’d like to see them all [survive]. I love that they’ve all survived this long.”
As of reporting this, only two original characters are confirmed to be returning for Scream 5 including David Arquette and Courteney Cox. However, while there has been no official announcement, both Neve Campbell and the directors have confirmed conversations have happened regarding the return of Sidney Prescott. Other cast members include Jenna Ortega (You, Jane the Virgin) and Melissa Barrera (In the Heights) in as-yet-undisclosed roles, as well as the newly announced Jack Quaid (The Boys).
Scream 5 is being directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of the filmmaking group Radio Silence (Ready or Not, V/H/S) from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt (Zodiac, The Amazing Spider-Man) and Guy Busick (Ready or Not, Castle Rock). The original writer of Scream, Kevin Williamson, will be returning as an executive producer alongside the third member of the Radio Silence trio, Chad Villella.
