Fantastic Beasts 3 has officially started filming, confirms Eddie Redmayne

September 21, 2020 by Liam Waddington

Following a delay in production earlier this year due to the ongoing global health crisis, franchise star Eddie Redmayne has confirmed that filming has now started on the third instalment of the Fantastic Beasts franchise.

During a recent interview with CinemaBlend to promote his upcoming film, The Trial of the Chicago 7, Redmayne revealed the cast and crew are two weeks into production on Fantastic Beasts 3 while describing the new safety protocols the studio has implemented.

“It’s interesting because we’ve started shooting now. We’re two weeks in, and again, it’s a whole new process,” Redmayne said. “It’s a whole new normal. Testing frequently, masks. And I wondered, actually, whether the masks would affect creativity, in some ways. Maybe that was a bit ignorant, but I just thought, as humans, do we need interaction to spark from each other. What is really reassuring is that it is a different process, but it still feels like it’s fizzing and that everyone is working at the top of their game.”

While plot details are currently being kept under wraps, Dan Fogler, who plays Jacob Kowalski in the prequel series, has previously teased what’s to come in Fantastic Beasts 3 including “a massive war” and “epic battle scenes.”

Fantastic Beasts 3 is currently scheduled for release on November 12th 2021. It is being directed by David Yates from a screenplay written by franchise creator J.K. Rowling and Steve Kloves, and Eddie Redmayne, Jude Law, Johnny Depp, Ezra Miller, Alison Sudol, Dan Fogler, Katherine Waterston, and Jessica Williams are all set to return as Newt Scamander, Albus Dumbledore, Gellert Grindelwald, Credence/Aurelius Dumbledore, Queenie Goldstein, Jacob Kowalski, Tina Goldstein, and Professor Eulalie Hicks respectively.
