With the show halfway through season two, FX has announced that it has renewed Noah Hawley’s acclaimed series Fargo for a third season.
“Year two of Fargo is an extraordinary achievement and, given Noah Hawley’s masterful storytelling, we can’t wait to see where the third, all-new version of Fargo takes us,” states FX Networks and FX Productions president of programming Eric Schrier (via THR). “Our thanks to Noah, Warren Littlefield, Joel and Ethan Coen, John Cameron and our partners at MGM Television for making Fargo such a memorable and rewarding journey.”
Fargo is loosely based upon the Coen brothers’ 1996 film of the same name, and while its ratings have been steady but not spectacular, the show has been a huge success with critics. The first season picked up three Emmy Awards and two Golden Globes, and the second is currently the highest-rated series of 2015 on Metacritic, averaging a score of 96 out of 100.
