Entertainment Weekly has revealed that comedian Jim Gaffigan has join The CW’s second season of Stargirl as Thunderbolt, a magical and powerful imp whose entity has been trapped inside a pink pen for years.
Thunderbolt is a powerful, electrical being in the DC universe, but “the wishes he grants often cause more trouble than the wish-asker would ever expect. But despite his somewhat constant supernatural disasters, the Thunderbolt’s heart is always in the right place, even if it is wounded by the friends he has lost throughout his long existence.” The character will be CGI and Gaffigan will provide his voice.
His casting comes soon after the series added Nick Tarabay (The Expanse) and Jonathan Cake (The Affair) in the villainous roles of Eclipso and The Shade respectively.
Created and executive produced by Geoff Johns, Stargirl centers on teenager Courtney Whitmore (Brec Bassinger), who discovers the cosmic staff and assumes the identity of Stargirl. After joining the JSA, Stargirl becomes an inspiration to a new generation of superheroes. The character was created by Johns and Lee Moder with the superheroine based off Johns’ late sister.
Stargirl will return on The CW in 2021.
