Final Destination creator confirms the next instalment is on hold for now

November 25, 2020 by Liam Waddington

Over the course of the ongoing global health crisis, we have seen numerous film and television projects temporarily pause production, and now, it seems like the sixth instalment in the Final Destination franchise is the latest project to come to a halt.

Taking to Twitter, franchise creator Jeffrey Reddick confirmed that while the latest instalment is still in development, the project is currently on hold until the business starts back up again.

It's not over. They were developing another #FinalDestination until Covid hit. They'll pick it back up once the business starts back up. https://t.co/yEKz5SwG1o

While we don’t know many details regarding the next instalment besides Saw sequel writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan are set to pen the script, series producer Craig Perry has previously stated that the film will be taking place in the same universe but the story could be from the perspective of first responders including EMTs, firemen, and the police.

“We’re toying with having it take place in the world of first responders: EMTs, firemen, and police. These people deal with death on the front lines every day and make choices that can cause people to live or die,” Perry told Digital Spy. “We rely on their good judgment, expertise, and calm demeanor. So why not put those people in the nightmare situation where every choice can bring about life and death – but now for themselves? We’re thinking that world might be an interesting way into a Final Destination movie, and one which can also generate unique set pieces in a very credible way.”
