Oscar Isaac cast as Solid Snake in Sony’s Metal Gear Solid movie

December 4, 2020 by EJ Moreno

The long-awaited Metal Gear Solid movie has finally found its Solid Snake. Deadline reports that Oscar Isaac of Ex Machina and the latest Star Wars trilogy fame will tackle the iconic video game soldier. The film adaptation of this iconic, long-running video game series has been in development at Sony Pictures for quite some time, with Jordan Vogt-Roberts on board to direct.

While there’s still no production date set, Deadline notes that Isaac’s involvement is likely to place this at the top of Sony’s priority list. The actor’s slate is still looking busy, with Isaac set to star in HBO’s Scenes From A Marriage, followed by starring as Moon Knight in Marvel’s upcoming series for Disney+.

Metal Gear Solid is a video game created by Hideo Kojima and published by Konami. First launching in 1987, the Metal Gear Solid game series has seen over 23 game installments over various platforms and has sold 56.1 million copies as of June 2020. The story from the first game will inspire the film and follows Snake, a soldier who infiltrates a nuclear weapons facility to neutralize renegade special forces unit Foxhound’s terrorist threat.

Kong: Skull Island‘s Jordan Vogt-Roberts will helm a script penned by Derek Connolly. Avi Arad is producing andPeter Kang is the executive overseeing for the studio.
