Halloween Kills receives an R rating for “strong bloody violence throughout”

December 10, 2020 by Liam Waddington

Although Halloween Kills has been delayed to October 2021 as a result of the ongoing global health crisis, the MPA has given the film its age rating and it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise.

Halloween Kills has officially earned an R rating for “strong bloody violence throughout, grisly images, language, and some drug use.”

While plot details are still being kept under wraps besides star Jamie Lee Curtis describing the film as a “mob movie,” this age rating seemingly coincides with comments made by several members of the creative team including John Carpenter, who returns to compose the music for Halloween Kills, who previously called the sequel “the quintessential slasher film” while also teasing that it will be “a slasher movie times one hundred.” Co-writer Scott Teems has also said the script is “the bigger, badder, meaner version of the first one,” while Michael Myers actor James Jude Courtney described Halloween Kills as “Halloween on speed.”

Halloween Kills is directed by David Gordon Green from a script by Green and Danny McBride and sees Jamie Lee Curtis (Laurie Strode) Judy Greer (Karen), Andi Matichak (Allyson), Jibrail Nantambu (Julian), Kyle Richards (Lindsey Wallace), Nancy Stephens (Nurse Marion), Charles Cyphers (Sheriff Brackett) and Nick Castle and James Jude Courtney (The Shape) all reprising their roles, while new additions include Anthony Michael Hall (The Dead Zone) as Tommy Doyle, and Robert Longstreet (The Haunting of Hill House) as Lonnie Elam. The film is currently scheduled to release on October 15th, 2021.
