Stephen King wishes Castle Rock got a third season after the series had found its footing in season 2

December 16, 2020 by Liam Waddington

Last month, it was announced that Hulu had cancelled psychological horror anthology series Castle Rock, a series that is based on the works of Stephen King including lore, characters, and locations, after two seasons.

Now, in an interview with The New York Times, Stephen King stated that he would have liked to have seen the third season of Castle Rock after the series had found its footing after the second season.

“The people involved were big fans of those books, and I liked what they did quite a lot,” King said. “In the second season, they really got their feet under them. I would have liked to have seen it go on and grow a little bit.”

Sadly, this isn’t the only Stephen King project to be recently cancelled as HBO decided against moving forward with the second season of The Outsider, however, the series is reportedly being shopped elsewhere to other “premium networks and streamers.”

Castle Rock initially debuted back in 2018 with the first season that focuses on The Kid, a mysterious inmate at Shawshank State Penitentiary, played by Bill Skarsgård alongside the other cast members including Andre Holland, Melanie Lynskey, Jane Levy and Sissy Spacek. However, the second season tells the origin story of the Misery villain Annie Wilkes, played by Lizzy Caplan. The second also featured a cast including Paul Sparks, Barkhad Abdi, Yusra Warsama, Elsie Fisher, Matthew Alan and Tim Robbins.

Castle Rock was developed by Sam Shaw & Dustin Thomason who also served as executive producers alongside J.J Abrams, Ben Stephenson, Vince Calandra, Stephen King and Liz Glotzer. The series hailed from Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions in association with Warner Bros Television.
