Over the years the creators of BBC’s award-winning drama Luther have dropped more clues than even the worst criminals as to when we might get to see DCI John Luther don his big coat and lurch onto the cinema screen in a movie-adaptation. Well, there’s no longer a case to crack, because while speaking to Capital FM’s Capital Weekender, Idris Elba revealed that he’s going to be working on Luther: The Movie sometime this year.
We already know that the actor can be seen later this year in James Gunn’s highly anticipated The Suicide Squad, but when asked what else we can expect to see from him in 2021, Elba replied:
“Definitely making more music. People that love my film and stuff, listen, I’m going to be making Luther the movie”. He went on to add “I hope the fans are excited for that, it has been a long time coming, for a movie, so I’m excited about that”.
Created by Neil Cross, who last year ruled out the possibility of a sixth series, Luther first aired in 2010, and earned Idris Elba a Golden Globe Award for his performance as the hard-nosed detective in 2012.
