Sonic the Hedgehog 2 star says filming starts in the next few months, reveals he has already read the script

February 22, 2021 by Liam Waddington

With Paramount Pictures recently setting an April 8th 2022 release date for Sonic the Hedgehog 2, the follow-up to last year’s live-action/CG-animated video game adaptation, one of the actors has provided an update on the film.

In an interview with ComicBookMovie.com, Ben Schwartz, who voices the titular character Sonic in the films, has revealed that the upcoming sequel should start filming within the next few months and he has already read the script.

“I believe Sonic starts filming in the next few months, I’m not quite sure when, but I know it’s coming up, and I was able to read a script and it’s gonna be great!”

While plot details are currently being kept under wraps, it’s safe to assume that Ben Schwartz’s Sonic and Jim Carrey’s Dr Robotnik will clash once again in the sequel. James Marsden has previously stated that he is already signed on for multiple sequels – hinting that his future with the franchise seems likely at this point. However, it seems like Sonic may not the only hero appearing in the sequel as not only was Tails featured in the closing moments of the original film but rumours are circulating that Aquaman star Jason Momoa has been approached to voice Knuckles.

Upon its release, Sonic the Hedgehog achieved the number one opening weekend of all time for a movie based on a video game and ended up earning just over $300 million at the worldwide box office, from a budget of around $90 million.
