…Warner Bros. stepped up its promotion for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice this week, releasing a short teaser of the Man of Steel unmasking The Dark Knight in his underground bunker, before unleashing the third full trailer for the DC ensemble. The trailer gave us a clear indication – perhaps a little too much so – of the plot, as well as confirming that the Trinity will be teaming up to battle Doomsday, who appears – as rumoured – to be created from the corpse of General Zod by Lex Luthor. You can read the thoughts of our writing team in the latest Flickering Myth Reaction, and be sure to check out FMTV’s reaction videos for the teaser [see here] and the full trailer [see here], along with Anghus Houvouras’ thoughts in The Week in Disappointment and Luke Owen’s op-ed Why Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Doesn’t Need Doomsday…
…The Batman v Superman trailer pulled in 23.2 million viewers in its first 24 hours on YouTube and Facebook, down from the 30 million clocked up by the first teaser and the Comic-Con trailer, and also considerably lower than that of the first Captain America: Civil War trailer from last week, which generated a new Marvel Studios record of 61 million views in the same timeframe (although that was counting other sources to YouTube and Facebook)…
…We’ve already seen a promotional image of Jason Momoa as Aquaman, and now we’ve got another glimpse at his King of Atlantis thanks to an Aquaman action figure from Batman v Superman, which seems to suggest that the character could be set for a more traditional colour scheme (although we all know how reliable action figures are given the toy manufacturers’ penchant for all kinds of crazy alternate costumes and accessories). Meanwhile, Hot Toys is also set to unveil its Batman v Superman line-up of collectible figurines, releasing a teaser image in the wake of the trailer…
…In addition to a glimpse of Wonder Woman in the Batman v Superman trailer, we also saw Gal Gadot’s Amazon Princess in some set photos for the 2017 solo movie, with Diana seemingly dressed as a nurse alongside Chris Pine (Steve Trevor) and Ewen Bremner. By the looks of it, the scene in question shows Allied soldiers returning home from France during the First World War; check out the set photos here…
…The British Board of Film Classification issued a 15 certificate to a Suicide Squad trailer this week, prompting speculation that we’d be getting another glimpse at the supervillain ensemble before the end of the year; however, it seems that’s not the case, as the certificate was for the Comic-Con trailer, which is set to be included on a Warner Bros. Blu-ray/DVD release…
…Moving on to the small screen and Victor Fries made his debut in Gotham this week, popping up at the end of Monday’s winter finale ‘Worse Than a Crime’; you can check out a couple of first look images of Nathan Darrow as Mr. Freeze here, along with a promo centered on the ice cold villain here. Meanwhile, Fox has also confirmed a couple of new cast additions, with Michael Bowen (Breaking Bad) set to play Patrick ‘Matches’ Malone and Lori Petty (Tank Girl) portraying Jeri, an underground club hostess who offers Bruce Wayne as to the identity of his parents’ killer…
…CBS placed an order for an additional six episodes of Supergirl this week, bringing the total up to a full first season of 20 episodes, while it has also been announced that Lexi Alexander (Punisher: War Zone, Arrow) is set to helm an episode of the show and that Italia Ricci (Chasing Life) is set to play Siobhan Smythe, a.k.a. the DC villain Silver Banshee. Be sure to check out a preview of Monday’s episode ‘Human For a Day’ here, while we’ve also got a batch of images for the following week’s winter finale ‘Hostile Takeover’ here…
…It had been rumoured that Supergirl would cross over with The Flash if it received a full season order, but it looks like the report was false, as Greg Berlanti stated that there were “no plans”, while Andrew Kriesberg also played down the possibility: “There’s always those late nights, delirious, semi-high on pizza where you’re like, ‘You know what would be really cool? If …’. But right now there is no legitimate actual plan to bring The Flash’s Cisco [Carlos Valdes] onto Supergirl or to bring Supergirl’s Winn [Jeremy Jordan] onto Legends of Tomorrow. First of all, we don’t even know if we could, legally. And quite frankly, just making the Arrowverse which is what we call Legends, Flash and Arrow work and then making Supergirl work, it’s enough of a challenge without having to add a fourth player…”
…The Flash did however cross over with Arrow this week for ‘Legends of Today’ and ‘Legends of Yesterday’, and if you missed it you can check out a bunch of trailers, clips and featurettes here, here, here and here, along with Jessie Robertson’s reviews of the episodes here and here…
…The Flash has added another DC villain this week with the announcement that Marco Grazzini (Heroes Reborn) will play Tar Pit; meanwhile, you can check out a promo and batch of images for Tuesday’s winter finale of The Flash here and here, along with a promo and images for Wednesday’s winter finale of Arrow here and here…
…Following the big Arrowverse crossover, The CW released a brand new poster and trailer for the upcoming spinoff series DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, along with some concept art for Hawkman and Hawkgirl…
