Though the chatter over the weekend wasn’t as heavy as another superhero project, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is a bonafide hit if you go by Disney+’s claims.
The streaming service reported yesterday that the new Marvel Studios show was the most-watched series premiere on the service in its opening weekend. This means the series has beat out the likes of pop culture juggernauts like The Mandalorian and WandaVision.
While Disney+ has yet to release official numbers for the episode, a report from MediaPlayNews says that Samba TV data finds The Falcon and the Winter Soldier premiere was streamed by 1.7 million households. If Samba TV’s information is accurate, this does place it above WandaVision, which brought in around 1.6 million households on its opening weekend.
For more reference, Samba TV also notes that 1.8 million households watched at least five minutes of Zack Snyder’s Justice League on HBO Max.

While this data isn’t 100% confirmed and Disney+ doesn’t always release numbers, it’s hard to gauge the show’s success, but it does seem to work well for critics and fans. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier sits at around 93% on Rotten Tomatoes with critics, with the audience score at 79%.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier features a cast that includes MCU veterans Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier), Emily VanCamp (Sharon Carter), Don Cheadle (War Machine), Daniel Bruhl (Zemo) and Georges St-Pierre (Batroc) alongside new additions Wyatt Russell (Overlord), Carl Lumbly (Doctor Sleep), Erin Kellyman (Solo: A Star Wars Story), Adepero Oduye (The Big Short), Desmond Chiam (Now Apocalypse), Miki Ishikawa (The Terror: Infamy) and Noah Mills (The Brave).
Marvel Studios’ The Falcon and the Winter Soldier airs on Fridays on Disney+.
