Focus Features and Carnival Films have announced that Downton Abbey is set to return to the big screen this Christmas, with filming now underway on Downton Abbey 2.
Simon Curtis (My Week with Marilyn) is directing the sequel, which is once again being written by Julian Fellowes, and will see Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock, Dominic West and Nathalie Baye joining the principal cast of the 2019 film. Specific plot details are being kept under wraps for the time being.
“After a very challenging year with so many of us separated from family and friends, it is a huge comfort to think that better times are ahead and that next Christmas we will be re-united with the much beloved characters of Downton Abbey,” said producer Gareth Neame of Carnival Films.
“There’s no place like home for the holidays, and we can’t imagine a better gift than getting to reunite with Julian, Gareth, and the entire Downton family in 2021 to bring the Crawley’s back home for their fans,” added Peter Kujawski of Focus Features.
Downton Abbey 2 will be released on December 22nd 2021.
