Bad Times at the El Royale and Fifty Shades of Grey star Dakota Johnson has signed on to headline Netflix and MRC Film’s modern retelling of Jane Austin’s classic Persuasion.
This version of Persuasion will tell the story of Anne Elliot (Johnson), who is an unconforming woman with modern sensibilities, living with her snobby family who are on the brink of bankruptcy. When Frederick Wentworth — the dashing one she once sent away — crashes back into her life, Anne must choose between putting the past behind her or listening to her heart when it comes to second chances.
The adaptation will be directed by Carrie Cracknell, who will be making her feature film debut having carved out a stellar reputation on Broadway with Jake Gyllenhaal’s Sea Wall/A Life, as well as the late Helen McCrory‘s acclaimed run in the National Theatre’s production of The Deep Blue Sea. She will be working from a script by Ron Bass and Alice Victoria Winslow.
Already adapted numerous times, most recently in the 2007 Sally Hawkins starring film, are you excited to see a modern take on Persuasion? Let us know by heading over to our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
