Collider is reporting that SpongeBob SquarePants’ Southern squirrel friend Sandy Cheeks is set to headline her very own spinoff movie which is said to be a live-action/CG-animated hybrid feature.
The site reports that Liza Johnson (Hateship Loveship, Elvis & Nixon) is set to direct the feature from a script by SpongeBob SquarePants regular Kaz and Tom J. Stern (SpongeBob Appreciation Day).
Nickelodeon is producing the movie for an as-yet-unconfirmed streaming service. The ViacomCBS-owned Paramount+ has the streaming rights to SpongeBob SquarePants, although Netflix secured international rights to the recent feature The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run and may well be in the mix for the spinoff.
