Longtime friends Zack Snyder and Christopher Nolan often work together in producing films. But what could’ve happened if Snyder and Nolan’s worlds crashed together? Well, we almost got that in 2013, or so says Snyder in a recent interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast.
During the interview, Snyder opened up to MTV‘s Josh Horowitz about early conversations about setting Man of Steel in the Christopher Nolan Batman universe. Even with how protective Nolan is over his work, the Army of the Dead filmmaker says it almost happened.
“It was not 100 percent off the table. We did talk about it a little bit,” Snyder told MTV‘s Josh Horowitz on Wednesday’s episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast.
While Zack Snyder says Christian Bale’s Batman was off the table, we could have seen Joseph Gordon Levitt take over the mantle since that’s where Nolan’s trilogy left off: “Maybe that’s why we didn’t do it,” said Snyder. “It would have been Joseph. Which could have been cool.”

Ultimately, the Justice League director understood why they never went that route and shared his respect for his filmmaker friend’s rather clean filmography: “I don’t blame him. I like that his thing doesn’t get muddied by these other touches.”
