Battlestar Galactica to receive a big screen reboot

April 9, 2014 by Gary Collinson

According to Variety, Universal Pictures is prepping a big screen reboot of the cult sci-fi franchise Battlestar Galactica, with original series creator Glen A. Larson producing, and rising screenwriter Jack Paglen (Transcendence and the upcoming Prometheus sequel) signing on to pen the script.

Battlestar Galactica originally arrived on screens back in 1978 with a TV movie pilot leading in to a single season. The show starred Lorne Greene, Richard Hatch and Dirk Benedict and centred on the crew of the warship Galactica as they searched for a new home after a sneak attack on their planet by the evil Cylons. The original series was followed by the short-lived spin-off Galactica 1980, while the property also enjoyed acclaim and a renewed popularity with the rebooted series, which ran between 2003 and 2009 and was followed by the spin-off prequel Caprica and webseries Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome.

Are you excited about the prospect of a Battlestar Galactica movie? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…
