With filming on the fifth season of The Crown now underway, Netflix has shared an image from the acclaimed drama series giving us our first look at Imelda Staunton’s reign as Queen Elizabeth II.
Oscar-nominee Staunton becomes the third actress to portray the Queen in the series after Claire Foy and Olivia Colman, and she’ll be joined in the new season by Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip, Dominic West as Prince Charles, Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana, Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret and Jonny Lee Miller as British Prime Minister John Major.
Season five of The Crown is set to cover the early 1990s, a turbulent period for the British Monarchy which saw three of the Queen’s children separating, a fire at Windsor Castle, the scandal surrounding Prince Charles’ affair with Camilla Parker-Bowles, and Princess Diana’s controversial BBC interview with Martin Bashir.
The Crown season 5 is scheduled to air on Netflix in 2022.
